Garden

New build houses are notorious for poor lawns due to them having very little top soil, as you can see from the ‘before’ picture it was in poor shape and mainly a mixture of moss and weeds; the plants at the front right of the property were also mainly weeds.

The client had a very busy lifestyle so specified that the garden needed to be low maintenance so, we discussed the options and opted to replace the lawn  up to the pillars with quality fake grass; behind the pillars we put grey slate and separated the two areas by sinking a railway sleeper.

The front garden to the right of the property we dug out the weeds keeping the nicer plants that had survived and adding a couple of low maintenance ones to even it out. After this we laid some thick weed screen and covered liberally in grey slate. The side of the house was overgrown with brambles so we dug them out, covered in weed screen and laid flags surrounded by grey slate; this had the added benefit of not only being low maintenance but it also meant she could easily access her car. After the garden had been completed, she asked that we look at the front of house itself as it didn’t have much identity; with (again with new build properties) all of the neighbouring houses were almost identical.

We sanded down the front door, garage door, pillars and the trim under the upstairs window and proceeded to paint the pillars white and the other areas in with 2 coats of Pastel Green exterior paint; we did the bases and the cut-outs of the pillars in Pastel Green at a later date. We changed the letterbox and door handle from the discoloured brass ones to ones of brushed aluminium.
